Moscato Bianco di Canelli is an aromatic varietal that thrives in calcium-rich, dry, marly, clay-free soils and windy environments that keep the humidity levels low. It holds up well against droughts and cold climates, reaching a high level of sugar concentration in full maturity. Despite the well-deserved criticism over the years aimed at industrial wineries who released large quantities of lesser quality Moscato d’Asti, high consideration nevertheless belongs to small wineries such as Cascina Fonda who lovingly produce great quality wines. Brothers Massimo and Marco Barbero have such a passion for this noble varietal that they have based almost their entire production on it. Under the banners of DOCG di Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti, they produce a sweet passito wine, a late harvest wine, and a Classic Method sparkling wine, resulting in a satisfying variety for all palates. The Barbero brothers inherited their passion from their father, Secondino Barbero, who founded the winery in 1963 and first cultivated this noble aromatic varietal.
