In 2004 the Baldi family bought a small farm in Staffolo, one of the areas most suited to the cultivation of Verdicchio. Riccardo Baldi, the current owner, was just starting high school at the time. Since then, he has taken over the management of his father’s small company.
The first harvest was in 2010; after which, the winery has come a long way thanks to expert advice from Lucio Canestrari, owner of Fattoria Coroncino, with his vast experience in Verdicchio and Staffolo. The vineyard has grown to 10 hectares with the acquisition of new plots in Cupramontana and San Paolo, on the south side of the Vallesina. The central vineyard is located in Contrada Castellaretta, on clay and calcareous soils, rich in calcium carbonate, located between 400 and 500 meters above sea level. The altitude ensures strong thermal excursions. The old double Guyot vines date back to 1972, with new single Guyot vines planted in 2010.
Riccardo Baldi now manages every phase of production, with enologist Umberto Trombelli in the cellar and Luca Severini in the vineyard. The Staffolo vineyards were certified organic in 2016 and interventions are now being studied to reduce the use of copper as much as possible. The work in the cellar is "artisanal" to create "a handmade wine from start to finish"
