Podere Fortuna represents a unique challenge to traditional winemaking in the Mugello region. In the late 1990s, Alessandro Brogi acquired land that once belonged to the Castle of Cafaggiolo, owned by Lorenzo The Magnificent de´ Medici in the late 15th century. Andrea Paoletti, the consulting enologist, found the terrain to share many similarities with that of the Côtes de Nuits in Burgundy and guided Brogi to take a chance by planting Pino Noir. The craftsmanship in the cellar is also French style, giving the wine a feminine personality with Tuscan nuances. In 2018 the winery was sold to the Lowenstein family financial group who is planning to extend the vineyards another 3 hectares.
